Oof, I've seen that gastro in action, and it's absolutely no fun. Interested to see how it fares in NZ!

I met my wife (an American) on the Kepler!

Yes! You've hiked it many times, I think?

Oh I’ve already told you and you have remembered. Now I gotta pretend like I knew this all along.

I swear that's the only detail I retained. You'll have to let me know how your experience(s) compare, and if you were, in fact, one of the many Kiwis who blew past me on that endless uphill climb wearing very short shorts and ankle gaiters...🧐

Isn't it so special to eat the exact same food as everyone else only they feel fine and you get sick? Such a gift. 😂

The weak smile plus I.v. pole says it all, holding on to your y.o.l.o still hoping it turns magically into that sort of trip. I’ll say congratulations on soldering on per the second photo. I’ve had a similar experience 3 years ago in Mexico!

Gastro really is a more fun word than it deserves to be! I’ve also had it multiple times while traveling, and it’s a special kind of misery. Also had kids who had it while traveling from California to Spain. Ugggghhhh. But on a happier note! I’m so excited to read more about this adventure!

Aaaaah we love a good gastro right ? Nah we don't. I have an interesting one on my flight back from Nigeria. But won't talk about it for obvious reasons. Let's just say that at some point, you forget about what the word shame means, because you have to survive through the gastro. On 3 differents flights. For about 20hrs. Because of the diverse flights' delays.

Wanna know about the trek though !!

Great story; I too look forward to hearing about the hike, if that story is coming our way. When was this trip?

Thank you again, I enjoy reading your writing!

It was a decade ago! And thank you for this comment--made me realize I'd put "2023" as the opening date when it was actually "2013".

Holly - tummy trouble is never fun even though this time it brought you a preciously, loving memory with your mother-in-law to be.

Trek on! I am keen to here your hiking story.

I have a friend who just completed a months long hike from the North Island to the tip if the South Island. (Thanks for the break from farm life - I get that. Haha!)
